Welcome to Gardiner Main Street—
Where Originality Matters
Gardiner was chosen in Oct. 2001, as one of four
original Main Street Maine communities by the Maine Downtown Center.
Our volunteers
have donated thousands of hours on projects
ranging from streetscape improvements to successfully launching
two annual special events. We are proud to welcome more than 25 net new
downtown
businesses that have opened their doors since Jan. 2002
and congratulate the businesses that have expanded.

Downtown Gardiner~ What are people saying?
"Each year my sister from Connecticut and I (from Nova Scotia) meet in the area too spend two weeks. We love to walk the streets of Hallowell and Gardiner and look eagerly toward seeing what has changed and what, thankfully, has not changed. This year we were delighted to discover a new little shop, Corniche. It was not only the unique items very tastefully displayed that attracted us to linger, it was the charming owner who made our visit an enduring experience. Though I have travelled the world, I rarely choose a piece of art because of packing and transporting it home, but I became mesmerized by one of Mary Weiss' photographs. It spoke to me on many levels that I knew it had to come home with me. Gardiner is a town like no other. It draws you in with its ever changing aspect."
