The Baby Congress
In 1895 the Gardiner Board of Trade organized "Carnival Week." On May 21st more than 100 horse-drawn floats wound through the streets of Gardiner and more than 20,000 people viewed this grand parade. A highlight of the week was a "Baby Congress" held at the Coliseum. Gardiner photographer, A. T. Reynolds— a man of infinite patience— posed 137 babies under the age of two years for a group photo. One wonders if such a feat has ever been duplicated. Perhaps we should check with the folks at Guinness.
